She was the star attraction of Rajasthan’s Ranthambore national park and considered to be the oldest surviving tiger in the wild. Machali, aged about 20, finally succumbed to old age on Thursday afternoon ending her long-term affair with the northern Indian national park. It is worth mentioning here that a Royal Bengal Tiger lives for 10-15 years on an average. ‘The queen of Ranthambore’, on the other hand, lived well beyond the normal lifespan. She also gave birth to 11 tigers, including 7 females and 4 males, in her lifetime.
“We were trying to provide her treatment but she died. It was a natural death linked to her age.”
